President William Ruto has disclosed that one of his sons is pursuing a Master’s degree in Sports Management to help improve the national football team, Harambee Stars.
Speaking on Tuesday, April 15, at State House during the flagging off of the U-20 National Team, Ruto said his son is passionate about football and often shares ideas on how to enhance the team’s performance.
“I want to tell you my own son is a great fan of football, and he keeps telling me we must do something. To show how serious he is, he has gone to do a Master’s in Sports Management because he wants to come and support you,” Ruto said.
While he did not specify which of his sons is taking the course, he noted that many young Kenyans see sports as a field full of potential and opportunity.
A Master’s in Sports Management prepares graduates for leadership roles in sports, including club and team management, event coordination, sports academies, media, and player representation.
Ruto also pledged government support to the Football Federation and announced the construction of a football-specific stadium in Nairobi.
“That is why we are building a football-only stadium at Jamhuri. It will mainly serve football, although other sports will be included,” he stated.
He emphasized the need to grow football in Kenya, revealing that the new Talanta Stadium at Jamhuri is under construction—40 years after the establishment of Kasarani Stadium.
“We are also refurbishing Kasarani by adding a canopy and upgrading other facilities like Nyayo, Kakamega, and Kipchoge Keino Stadiums,” he added.
Ruto further shared that the Ministry of Sports is establishing 37 sports academies across the country, with 10 already advertised, to nurture and support young talent.
